The Wrath of Angels

It's been a pretty busy summer. Between work and my fair lady I've had precious little time for the usual array of books, video games, and various projects. I did finally figure out how to replace the air filter on my furnace - years after buying the house O_O. I also managed to see most of the big movies... I was a little disappointed with Prometheus but enjoyed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (action), Battleship (action), and Men in Black 3 (sci-fi / comedy - way better than 2). The Avengers was awesome of course - all thanks to Joss Whedon and company. The Hunger Games was overrated (see Battle Royale), The Dictator was no Borat, and (sigh) the ending to Snow White and The Huntsman was weak.

I've been playing Diablo III too. At first I was a little disappointed but after I gave it another chance (and watched the Collector's Edition DVD) I realized it's really not half bad. Blizzard put a lot of effort into the audio and graphics and managed to keep the gameplay true to the series. If you're looking for a hack 'n slash this is it. My biggest remaining complaint (besides the DRM of course - what a disaster) is that it absolutely should not have taken this long to develop this game - and I sincerely hope they don't spend another decade on Diablo IV. All players really need is more content... to kill.

Courtesy of a couple recommendations from work followed by my family I've become obsessed with Game of Thrones even though I don't have HBO. It really is the best fantasy TV series ever (though, to be fair, I haven't see any outside the cheesy action subgenre). I've been playing with the idea of getting HBO right before the 3rd season starts but in the end my cheapness might get the best of me since I know I'll be buying the DVDs anyway. Syrio Forel is by far my favorite character, minor though he may be. Given how good the show is and what I've heard of the books I really don't think it's worth it to read them but we'll see. Patience is a virtue, just not my strongest one when it comes to fiction.

I just ordered some NES controller adapters for my Wii - now I Just have to find time to play the Virtual Console games I already have. I also need to get the exterior of my house painted :(. After that I'm going to concentrate on fixing up my 1975 Chevy pickup.
