October, October

I love October. Not just because of Halloween either - I love autumn and the weather turning colder in general. It's not even about the candy, especially since I'm a bit too big to get away with trick-or-treating unless I'm escorting kids, it's about the season and the spooky fun atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, Christmas reigns supreme, but people get all mixed up in family stuff just like they do for Thanksgiving. That's awesome and I enjoy it myself but it's cool to have a holiday where you get to hand out candy to complete strangers, dress up in costumes, and generally be silly and have a good time.

I wrote a poem, obviously dedicated to the month of October:

October, October, an end to summer's wrath
Ghosts, and goblins, leaves, and pumpkins
Dance upon the village paths

The forest trees begin to fall
In shadow and in light
Kings and paupers - all must ware
Their autumn clad delight

The moon adorns the darkened sky
Witches weave across the night
The sun burns grey and hides away
From the farmer's famished scythe

And in the end new souls come out
To haunt the hallowed streets
They tease and trick and try for treats
'Til the ninth month is complete
